I believe that everything is interconnected. Our body, mind & spirit work in miraculous ways to bring forth our best self. If you want to look your best, you first have to put in a little effort to be your best. Below are my top 10 beauty resolutions for 2015.
1. Discard old makeup every few months
I’m guilty of hoarding my makeup – I think I may even have a face mask I bought from Hong Kong four years ago still! To start this year right, I’m going to comb through my makeup bags and beauty draw to get rid of products past their use period.
2. Drink 8 cups of water a day
I’ve been waking up with dry hands practically every morning lately, so this year I’m making a significant attempt to drink enough water. I just downloaded Water Your Body – an app that allows you to record your fluid intake, while alerting you at intervals when to down another glass.
3. Clean my makeup brushes every 2 weeks
What’s worse than old makeup is dirty makeup brushes. Besides harboring bacteria, they retain makeup residue. I’ve been cleaning every few months, but that’s definitely changing in 2015.
4. Eat balanced meals
Food is LIFE. I even have a food blog (psst – check out The Hungry Bitch)! I know they’re not synonymous, but when healthy isn’t often tasty I usually choose the latter. You are what you eat though, so greasy, fatty foods will have a lesser role in my diet this year. Not saying I’m giving up on unhealthy eats, but everything in moderation!
5. Use at least one face mask a week
I bought a plethora of face masks in Hong Kong this past April, but I’ve been using them sparingly. I think it’s because I’m used to relying on traveling to HK in order to buy them. But with sites like Sasa shipping globally and other brands like Skinfood with locations in the U.S. now, I can use my face masks a little more frequently to rehydrate and revitalize my skin.
6. Exercise regularly
Does anyone really love going to the gym? I have a membership, and I for sure don’t get my money’s worth. However, all those holiday meals and alcohol have finally reached my gut. I don’t necessarily like being skinny, but I do like how being fit feels. So, the gym’s going to be my second home very soon!
7. Use greener beauty products
I’ve always had a thing for reading food labels, because I think it’s important to know what’s actually in my boxed and packaged foods. So I don’t know why I’ve never paid much attention to my beauty product labels. It’s scary that the FDA only regulates cosmetics – they don’t have the responsibility to approve ingredients. That means, all those chemicals in your lipstick may be harmful to you, yet you won’t know until it’s too late. Time to be more green-conscious. Check out the infographic below to learn which beauty ingredients to avoid.

8. Clean my phone once a week
It’s a well-known fact that our cell phones are filthy. Some of us can’t even put it down when we’re on the toilet! Yet we touch them when we eat and constantly put them on our faces. When was the last time you cleaned the germs off of yours?
9. Use lotion after every hand wash
Again, my hands have been super dry lately. Winter weather surely doesn’t help, but before I get wrinkly, scaly hands, I’m vowing to moisturize after every wash.
10. Floss daily
Oral health is linked to overall body health, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s gotten too lazy to floss once the dentist stopped giving prizes (I don’t know about you, but my pediatric dentist let me choose party favors from a fish bowl after every successful appointment :P). Flossing is pertinent though, and I’m not letting laziness get in the way of a better me this year!
I would love to hear your thoughts! Are you also striving towards any of the goals above? Do you have any other beauty resolutions to add to the list?
